File An Appeal

Students are strongly encouraged to work with their Student Success Counselors to complete the forms before submitting. Incomplete forms will be rejected.

Grade Appeal

Grade appeals are available when students can demonstrate their assignments were evaluated outside the written directions, rubric, or standards not applied to other students.

Prior to considering a grade appeal, students are expected to:

  • discuss course-related questions or concerns with their instructor directly so that the instructor has the opportunity to work with the student to seek resolution
  • contact their student success counselor as soon as questions or concerns arise so that administration has an opportunity to help facilitate immediate resolution prior to the end of the course

Late Grade Appeal

Students who seek to request work submitted beyond the deadline be graded or to submit work beyond the deadline. Successful appeals will provide detailed reasons for work being submitted late and the request for the exception. If documentation is mentioned in the appeal form students will want to provide the documentation with their appeal.

Late Grade Appeal Policy

Prior to considering a grade appeal, students are expected to discuss course-related questions or concerns with their instructor directly so that the instructor has the opportunity to work with the student to seek resolution. Students are also expected to contact their Student Success Counselor as soon as questions or concerns arise so that administration has an opportunity to help facilitate immediate resolution prior to the end of the course.

If direct communication with faculty and staff does not bring a satisfactory resolution and the student would like to seek an exception to the late policy, an late grade appeal can be submitted. The burden of proof rests with the student to demonstrate what prevented them from submitting work by the deadline.

The student must submit the late grade appeal request, including any supporting documentation, within 90 days after the final grade is recorded. Discussion posts cannot be appealed for late submission or grading. Appeal requests are submitted in the Student Portal.

Appeal Outcomes

Late grade appeal determinations will include one of the following actions:

  • The work is accepted, graded and overall grade is updated.
  • The request is denied and the overall grade remains.

Provost Appeal Process

Students who submit the Grade Appeal and are denied can file a Provost Appeal Form. The Provost Appeal must be submitted within 2 weeks of the original decision. The Provost may request additional documentation from the student. The student will be notified of the final decision no later than three (3) weeks from the filing of the appeal with the Provost or his/her designee.
